Thermal Storage Systems – Specifications

Thermogenetic™ Electric Thermal Storage Systems

Specification

Note:  items shown in parenthesis () are options.

1. General

The Thermal Storage System, “THERMOGENETIC” unit by PRECISION Boilers, Model Number _______to provide space heating and/or domestic hot water, as shown on the drawings, shall be furnished and installed by the mechanical contractor. The system shall have a storage section of ______gallons with______KW electrical input as scheduled. The unit shall be UL listed and manufactured by PRECISION, Morristown, Tennessee.

The System shall be completely factory packaged, pre wired and pre-piped, with a sealed Thermal Storage section, balancing chamber, mixing valves, heat exchangers, electric control panel, electric immersion heating elements, pressure and temperature controls, ASME approved relief valve, fill and drain connections, and other required accessories.

2. Balancing Chamber

There shall be no permanent make up water connection to the Thermal Storage section, and it shall be designed to store hot water up to a maximum of___________F at________PSIG. The unit shall be capable of delivering hot water in the design quantities and at the desired temperature when the storage vessel is at the highest as well as the lowest allowable temperature without water hammer.

3. Thermal Storage System Construction

The Thermal Storage section shall be fabricated of welded steel and shall meet the requirements of the appropriate sections of the ASME Code for 75 PSI design pressure. It shall have an overall diameter of _____”, an overall height of _____”, and an overall length of ____”. The vessel shall be registered with the National Board, and an ASME Data Report shall be furnished.

The vessel section shall be insulated with a minimum of 4 inches of 6 pound density mineral wool fiber insulation with sheet aluminum jacketing. The standby heat loss shall be no more than 3.5 watts/sq. ft. at an ambient temperature of 80 degrees F. The Storage section shall be (Vertical), (Horizontal) and shall be supported by integrally welded support saddles and perimeter frame. Steel lifting lugs are to be welded to the shell and shall not protrude above the metal jacket.

3.1. Optional—Outdoor Application

Unit shall be constructed for outdoor application completely sealed and weather tight, including a fully lighted and ventilated walk-in service room with full size lockable access door. Room shall be an integral part of the system covering all operating components. The vessel for outdoor application shall be insulated with 6 pound density mineral wool (6″) (8″) thick.

4. Heat Exchanger

The Thermal Storage section shall be equipped with a stainless steel and copper heat exchanger sized to heat a flow of ____ GPM from ___degrees F to _____degrees F, with Thermal

Storage temperatures ranging from _____degrees F to _____degrees F. The heat exchanger shall be designed for a maximum operating pressure of 150 psi. The pressure drop of the heat exchanger section shall not exceed _____ psi.

5. Electric Heating Elements

The electric heating elements shall be designed for a total of _____KW at _____volts _____phase. They will be an integral part of the Thermal Storage Section and be pre-wired to the electric control panel. The electric heating elements shall be immersion type, pressure fitted to a standard 150 PSI flange. Watt density shall not exceed 75 watts per square inch.

6. Electric Control Cabinet

The pre-wired electric control cabinet shall have electric service connection terminals, and shall include pressure, temperature and low water controls, contactors, and fuses for each heating stage, and a 120-volt control circuit. The control cabinet shall include a disable relay and a terminal strip mounted and factory wired to accept a load limiting device to provide peak shaving. High temperature sa
fety controls shall shut off all electric heat input if the design temperature is exceeded. All electrical components and wiring shall conform to the National Electrical Code and be UL Listed.

7.  Experience In Thermal Storage

The complete Thermal Storage System shall be factory assembled and tested and shall require only service connections. The manufacturer of this type of self-contained, integral Thermal Storage System must have at least 20 installations that have been operating satisfactorily, at above temperatures, for over five years. At time of equipment jobsite setting, a representative of the manufacturer shall be present to assure proper handling.

8.  Factory Licensed Startup

Check, test and start-up shall be performed by a factory trained service representative. Maintenance and operating instructions in multiple copies shall be furnished in booklet form.
